Kirsty O'Connor
Mixed media artist-maker, Kirsty O’Connor currently works in clay and paper –making voluptuous pots and unique books. These are very different disciplines -making pots being primarily a very physical process and making books a thoughtful one – but in both she allows the materials to guide her.
The areas she is exploring include: the great mother; female sexuality; what we are doing to the earth; altered states and the artist as shaman.
She has engaged with these in a number of ways over the years - through textiles, graphic design and illustration, writing, painting and being a community artist with an international psychology organisation.
Her smoke-fired figurative vessels are created in honour of the great goddess and her myriad aspects as celebrated in different cultures. The eggs have emerged from the goddesses as symbols of new beginnings and possibilities.
